Phison Electronics, which specializes in NAND flash and storage controllers, is focusing on enterprise, automotive and industrial applications while reducing its share of consumer electronics sales, the source said.

Previously, consumer electronics solutions accounted for up to 80% of Phison’s revenue. In 2020, this share dropped to 30%. At the same time, sales of embedded storage through ODM channels for use in PCs increased.

In particular, the company is ramping up shipments of PCIe Gen4 SSD controllers. Moreover, samples of the next generation SSD controllers supporting PCIe Gen5 have already started shipping. These controllers are designed for use in enterprise storage systems, data centers, and gaming computers. The manufacturer expects shipments of PCIe SSD controllers to skyrocket in 2021 and 2022.
Last year, the company allocated almost $ 250 million to R&D, or 82% of all capital expenditures.
