Security experts on the MistTrack platform say that criminals are now actively moving stolen assets, converting them into MakerDAO tokens (DAI).
Pink Drainer members provided tools for other criminals to steal cryptocurrencies through social engineering and distribution of phishing links. As payment, the developers received commissions and interest on the stolen assets.
Representatives of the group emphasized that they do not intend to return the stolen funds, and thanked the criminal community for the trust and respect they showed.
“We have achieved our goal and now, as planned, it is time to retire. After the publication of this message, we will begin to wind down the infrastructure. All stored information will be erased and securely destroyed,” Pink Drainer said in a statement.
Cybercriminals believe that their departure will not change the situation for the better in terms of security in the digital asset market; users will continue to believe scammers by investing in scam projects. According to MistTrack platform specialists, Pink Drainer was involved in an attack on creditors of the collapsed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, the BlockFi company for $5 million, as well as the theft of $4.4 million from one of the holders of LINK tokens. According to the ScamSniffer portal, more than twenty thousand people became victims of attackers.
Earlier, the team behind the crypto lending protocol Sonne Finance announced that it had lost at least $20 million after an attacker was able to exploit a vulnerability in some smart contracts.
