Plurality in institutions brings benefits

Diversity and inclusion actions in the corporate world bring positive impacts. This is shown by the study carried out by the Instituto Identidades do Brasil – ID_BR. The research, on the impact of actions for more plural environments on the job market, points out that, for every 10% increase in ethnic-racial diversity within the company, there is an increase of almost 4% in employee productivity. Also according to the study, for every 10% increase in gender diversity, there is an increase of almost 5% in the productivity of institutions.

Of all the companies served by ID_BR, 48.5% are part of the Services sector; 34.3% from Industry; 16.2% of Commerce. The results by economic sectors show that, for every 1% increase in ethnic-racial diversity of companies in the service sector, on average, business productivity increased by 0.19%. In the commercial sectors, the increase was 0.16%, in the industrial sector, 0.15%.

According to the research, the improvement in the productivity of companies that invested in ethnic-racial and gender diversity are: improvements in the level of well-being; composition of staff with more diversified skills and abilities; improvements in the organizational climate and decline in employee turnover, in addition to a greater ability of the organization to attract people with high skills and competences, and prioritize more inclusive and less prejudiced work environments.

The data analyzed by ID_BR highlight a significant advance in understanding the opening of institutions to diversity and inclusion. From 2020 to 2022, more than 60 thousand employees were reached by the ID_BR Intersectional Ethnic-Racial Census, which is carried out annually. For the organization, efforts and corporate investments, in favor of diversity and inclusion in organizations, can make a huge difference not only for the creation of a more just and equitable society, but also in optimizing the production of companies in an economic system that shows increasingly competitive and dynamic.
