The president and CEO of HBO and Max, Casey Bloys he stated in an interview with Variety that a series of “Dilly Rich” is under development. In 2018, the book by Kevin Kwan it got a film adaptation and now, it will have a TV version.
“There are other properties like ‘The Conjuring’, which is a big film franchise that we are developing a series of, as well as “Dirty Rich People”,’ he said, when asked about the projects planned by the studio for the coming years.
More information about the series has not yet been released. It’s unclear whether there will be a new adaptation or spin-off.
The film follows Rachel Chu, an economics professor in the United States of Chinese descent. When her boyfriend Nick invites her to go to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore, he forgets to tell her that, as heir to a fortune, he is one of the most eligible bachelors there, putting RAchel in the sights of other candidates and Nick’s mother, who disapproves of the relationship.
On the big screen, the couple is played by Constance Wu (“The Scammers”) and Henry Golding (“Crime Tycoons”). The Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere at the Same Time”), Awakwafina (“The Farewell”), Gemma Chan (“Eternal”) and Ken Jeong (“The Hangover!”) are also in the cast.
