The Civil Police dismantled a gang specialized in the so-called “motorcycle courier scam”, when the victim hands over the bank card to the criminal, who pretends to be a bank employee, for false maintenance.
25 search and seizure warrants were executed in the cities of São Paulo, Santos, Praia Grande, Guarulhos and Rio de Janeiro.
According to the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat, investigations began after an anti-fraud security analyst from a financial institution filed a police report stating that his client was a victim of the well-known “motoboy scam”, in which he ended up suffering a loss of R$261 thousand.
Investigators made reports and identified both the beneficiaries of the fraud and the motorcycle courier and those responsible for the scam.
Another person suffered a loss of R$ 256 thousand, this time, the scammers posed as bank employees, contacted a customer, who ended up passing on his bank account details.
With the identification of the suspects and the search and seizure warrants issued, the agents launched the operation, called “Double Shot”, with the participation of 20 civil police officers from the 4th Police Station for Laundering and Concealment of Illicit Assets by Electronic Means, from Deic, in addition to operational support from other police stations and teams from the Armed Robbery and Assault Repression Group, Garra, from the Department of Strategic Police Operations (Dope).
With the gang, the Police arrested a Porsche Boxter, valued at almost R$700,000, as well as a Toyota Corolla Cross, a Fiat Toro, 10 cell phones, watches, 22 .380 caliber ammunition, two .762 rifle ammunition cases, R$6,170 and US$30 thousand – around R$150 thousand, at the current price.
According to the Department of Criminal Investigations, Deic, six people were indicted for participating in the scheme. Two flagrant incidents were also recorded.
