Police arrest third suspect involved in lawyer’s death in RJ

Police officers from the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC), arrested this Tuesday (5) a suspect of participating in the death of lawyer Rodrigo Marinho Crespo, aged 42.

The man identified as Cezar Daniel Mondego de Souza was temporarily detained by the Judicial Department of the District of the Capital, based on representation from the police authorities of the Homicide Police Station.

According to investigations, Cezar Mondego was one of those responsible for monitoring the victim in the days leading up to the crime and on the day of the incident.

He would have worked together with Eduardo Sobreira Moraes, who also had his arrest ordered and is on the run. The two would have followed the victim on Monday (26) using a white VW/GOL vehicle, similar to that of the executors.

According to the police, the vehicle was handed over to Eduardo Sobreira by military police officer Leandro Machado Silva, who is also at large and would have been responsible for coordinating all the logistics of the crime.

The PM is assigned to the Duque de Caxias Battalion, in Baixada Fluminense. Leandro Machado has already been investigated and arrested for murder, and for being part of a militia that operates in Duque de Caxias.

Lawyer Rodrigo Marinho Crespo was killed on February 26, on Avenida Marechal Câmara, in the center of Rio. The crime was committed in broad daylight, a few meters away from the OAB/RJ headquarters.

Camera footage recorded the moment the killer got out of the back seat of a vehicle and shot the victim several times. The lawyer was hit by around 21 shots, mainly in the face.

The Rio de Janeiro civil police reported that they are continuing investigations to identify the others involved and the motivation for the crime.
