Police await test results to find out if German consul would have doped Belgian

The material collected at the residence of the German consul in Brazil, Uwe Hebert Hahn, 61, will be analyzed in a laboratory at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) to determine whether the Belgian Walter Henry, 52, had consumed any tranquilizing substance.

The determination will be made from blood identified on the victim’s pillowcase. Deputy Camila Lourenço, from the Civil Police, suspects that Uve would have medicated Henry.

“We believe he could have been drugged for some time. The lack of evidence that he defended himself and the amount of dirt scattered around the house are some indications of this. But it is something that we are analyzing”, said Lourenço.

In addition to the building manager, the delegate did not rule out hearing her daughter, who would have tried to help the victim. The official also said that the police also made contact with the victim’s family in Belgium. The Civil Police is still awaiting the court decision on breach of confidentiality of cell phones.

Investigators are still working to conclude the motive for the crime, but they already have evidence that the two were in an abusive relationship.

“There was a context of domestic violence of oppression. An aggravating factor: a foreign citizen who did not work. She was financially dependent on her husband”, explained the delegate.

The consul’s defense asked for the release of the arrest, claiming that he has consular immunity. Despite this, the Justice understood that the benefit does not apply to the case, as it is an episode outside the diplomatic environment and without any relation to the functions performed by Uwe Hahn.

In addition, the responsible magistrate understands that it is important to keep the consul in prison, in order to avoid jeopardizing the collection of evidence and to ensure that there is no escape.
