Police collect statements from teachers and students; what is known so far about the attack on a school in SP

The São Paulo Civil Police began collecting testimonies from teachers and students at the Thomazia Montoro State School. On the morning of this Monday (27), a 13-year-old teenager stabbed a teacher to death and injured five other people at the scene.

Elisabete Tenreiro, 71 years old, was stabbed in the back, with no chance of defense. The boy also attacked three other teachers and two students before being detained by the police. Their lives are not at risk, according to the São Paulo authorities.

According to the investigation of CNN the aggressor used to make racist attacks and had previously argued with colleagues, even threatening them.

What is known about the case

Around 7:20 am this Monday, a 13-year-old youth killed a teacher and injured five other people at the Thomazia Montoro State School, located in the west zone of São Paulo.

The victim, identified as Elisabete Tenreiro, was 71 years old. According to the secretary of Public Security of São Paulo, Guilherme Derrite, the teenager also injured three other teachers and two students.

They are not at risk of life, as informed by the secretary.

A Physical Education teacher was responsible for immobilizing the boy and interrupting the attack.

Footage from a security camera shows the moment the teacher approaches the attacker as he stabs another woman in a classroom.

Upon noticing the attack, the teacher grabs the student by the neck and pulls him away from the victim. Then she enlists the help of another woman to disarm the attacker. The action was described as “heroic” by Derrite.

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, expressed regret in a post on Twitter after the attack.

“I have no words to express my sadness. The 13-year-old teenager has already been apprehended and our efforts are focused on helping the injured and welcoming their families,” said the governor.

The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, also sympathized with the families and friends of the injured teachers and students.

“I am following with dismay the episode of violence that took place at the Thomazia Montoro State School, in the city of São Paulo. I express my solidarity with the relatives and friends of the teachers and students injured in the attack, making the MEC available to the Secretary of Education and the State Government to collaborate in whatever way possible”, he wrote on social networks.
