Portsmouth residents allowed to pay utility bills with bitcoin

The authorities of the city of Portsmouth in the state of New Hampshire said that now residents of the city will be able to pay their bills with cryptocurrency.

This was stated in an interview with Seacoastonline by Mayor Deglan McEachern. As part of an initiative by local authorities, citizens will be able to pay property taxes and utility bills with bitcoin. To do this, you will need to have a PayPal crypto wallet.

The mayor of the city managed to convince the council of deputies of Portsmouth that the city needs to use digital technologies. McEachern says the initiative will increase citizen participation in the city’s economy by expanding the range of ways to pay bills. According to the official, Portsmouth will not sit back and wait for cryptocurrencies to affect its future, instead the city will immediately take its place in the new industry.

McEachern believes that the initiative as such will not affect the financial system, since the cryptocurrency will be automatically converted into US dollars after being sent to utility bills.

Earlier it became known that the mayor of the Texas city of Austin, Steve Adler (Steve Adler) plans to offer citizens to pay bills with cryptocurrencies. The initiative has become part of a plan to introduce blockchain and cryptocurrencies into urban infrastructure and business processes.
