Post Office warns of scam charging fee to pick up package

If you buy online and receive a message or email saying that your order has been taxed and is therefore being held, or asking you to update your address, be careful. The Post Office has issued an alert: it’s a scam!

“Attention! New scam in the square. Scammers have been sending SMS pretending to be from the Post Office . If you regularly shop online and are registered with the Post Office, you can no longer trust the messages that arrive on your cell phone.

Through malicious links, criminals direct users to fake websites where their confidential data is stolen.

And to learn how to identify scam attempts that use the name of the Post Office, just take some basic precautions, such as, be suspicious of urgent messages check the email and the sender’s name before clicking on any link or providing personal information. In the case of Correios, the email is @correios.com.br.

Do not click on the links in the body of the email under any circumstances. If you are really expecting a package, go to the official Post Office website and check the product tracking.

Keep applications and softwares virus scanning programs to protect against new threats. These programs periodically scan and remove harmful files from your computer.

The Federal Revenue Service informs that it does not send messages to collect payment for the release of goods; and that, if the order arrived by post, the payment slip can only be issued through the “Minhas Importações” platform on the Post Office website or on its app.
