Postponement of Taylor Swift concert led LATAM to waive ticket change fees

It is now possible to add Taylor Swift to the list of events such as wars, storms and other natural disasters that can cause an airline to waive the change fee.

LATAM Airlines, South America’s largest airline, announced on Saturday that it was waiving its change fees for customers wishing to extend their stay in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after Taylor postponed her show, originally scheduled for Friday, for Sunday, due to bad weather.

While the airline’s tweet did not specifically mention the postponement of the concert as a reason for the policy change, it did state that it would waive the normal change fee for those planning to depart the Argentine capital before the rescheduled Sunday night concert.

“We know your plans have changed, which is why, starting today, we have updated our flexibility policy for those who had a scheduled flight from Buenos Aires on November 11th and 12th,” read a tweet from the airline published on Saturday. “They will be able to make changes without fines or fare differences to fly until next Friday, 11/17, depending on seat availability.”

Taylor herself tweeted the change in concert plans on Friday, citing safety concerns caused by a storm at the venue.

“I love a show in the rain, but I will never endanger my fans or my fellow artists and crew,” he tweeted.

“We rescheduled the Buenos Aires show from today to Sunday due to the chaotic weather, it would be unsafe to try to hold the show. The good news is that I will be able to stay in Argentina longer!”

As for U.S. airlines, United said it does not charge change fees on international flights originating in the United States, including round-trip tickets. Delta, which is a LATAM partner, said it uses “situational flexibility to support customer adjustments.”
