The positions of the Piraeus Chamber of Crafts were developed by the President of BEP Mr. George Papamanolis – Dozas in the context of the briefing given by the representatives of the productive bodies of the city to the President of KINAL – PASOK Mr. Nikos Androulakis, in a special meeting held at ΕΒΕΠ.
The difficult situation in which companies – members of BEP have found themselves due to the energy crisis was described by the President Mr. George Papamanolis – Dozas to the President of KINAL – PASOK, pointing out that due to increases in fuel and electricity, operating costs in business categories – such as are ice cream parlors or foundries- it becomes suffocating. He even characterized as unfair the horizontal regulation that has been made and asked the authorities to reconsider a new framework for the relief of companies and especially of productive crafts and processing.
Mr. Nikos Androulakis listened carefully and noted the remarks made by the President of the BEP regarding the need to modernize technical education, its connection with the Ministry of Development, but also about the serious shortcomings found in a number of technical specialties.
Mr. Papamanolis expressed the assessment that there should be a comprehensive plan for technical education, as well as for all companies with shipbuilding and repair activities. He called for the immediate reopening of the country’s two largest shipyards in Elefsina and Skaramagka, a prospect of investing in and restarting a number of small and medium-sized enterprises and crafts operating in the subsidiary of Elefsinos Shipyards and Hellenic Shipyards. . He even commented that the current picture in shipbuilding is reminiscent of a “patient in a coma” and because of this there are third countries that bring profits against Greece.
Regarding the financing of Small and Medium Enterprises, the President of BEP noted that there should be a comprehensive policy for relief and regulation with the greatest possible consensus and with completely transparent procedures. “The concern of most of us is to strengthen the operation of our businesses, not only to keep jobs open, but to adapt to new data and market and competition requirements,” he said, explaining that the digital transition of businesses arose violently because of the coronavirus and not because it was a reality in many other EU countries.
Mr. Papamanolis reiterated, finally, the constant request of the Piraeus Chamber of Craft for exploitation and utilization of abandoned public infrastructure in favor of very small companies and start-up companies, in order to create “business incubators”.
Mr. Androulakis and his associates listened carefully to the remarks made by Mr. Papamanolis – Dozas and reserved for a special briefing at the offices of the Piraeus Chamber of Crafts in order to have a complete picture of the situation in SMEs, manufacturing and production companies. but also in the majority of companies of West Attica – members of the BEP.
