The president of Peru Dina Boluarte was attacked on Saturday (20) during a ceremony to inaugurate works on a highway in Ayacucho, according to Peru's official news agency, Andina.
The report details that a group of women approached Boluarte and one of them pulled her hair. After the attack, the woman was separated by police officers who detained her.
According to Andina, the group of women identifies as part of an association of family members of people who died during the political protests at the end of 2022.
The president of the Peruvian Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola, expressed his condemnation of the aggression. “With violence we all lose as a country. This unfortunate event has endangered the integrity of the head of state and this is very serious.”
Peruvian government institutions also condemned the event, including the Ministry of Women.
“We appeal for this case to never be repeated against any woman, we must ban all forms of violence against women in our country”, defended the ministry in a post on the social network X.
