PRF finds cocaine hidden in trailer with donations to RS

A joint action by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the Military Highway Police of Santa Catarina found more than 50 kilos of drugs hidden in a truck carrying donations for those affected by the rains in Rio Grande do Sul.

According to the incident report, the truck was intercepted on the SC-480 state highway, in São Domingos, in the west of Santa Catarina, on Saturday morning (18).

The vehicle, which had a Cascavel license plate, in Paraná, was carrying approximately 20 tons of donations that were legally collected by the Civil Defense of Paraná. The truck even had the humanitarian aid credential issued by the Civil Defense of Cascavel, and also contained a sticker with the words “SOS Rio Grande do Sul”.

However, during inspection, agents located the drugs inside a spare tire. The police used tools to open the tire, where they found 52 kilos of cocaine and one kilo of crack.

The 39-year-old driver confessed that he would deliver the spare tire to a gas station, shortly before unloading the donations in Rio Grande do Sul. He was taken to the Federal Police in Chapecó (SC) and must face charges of drug trafficking.

According to the PRF, the trailer was seized and is in custody in Xanxerê, where it awaits the arrival of another vehicle to transfer the cargo. Then, donations will go directly to the victims of Rio Grande do Sul.
