The Federal Highway Police (PRF) rescued, this Tuesday morning (5), a mother and her baby on the roof of a house in a municipality affected by the rains caused by an extratropical cyclone in the South region. See the videos below.
At least five people died in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina due to heavy rains.
This Tuesday’s rescue videos released by the PRF show a region affected by the flood of the Taquari River, in the region of the state known as Vale do Taquari, in the municipality of Roca Sales.

“This Tuesday morning (05), the Federal Highway Police began rescue work for those affected by the flooding of the Taquari River. The work is concentrated in the municipalities of Roca Sales, Muçum and Encantado. In these areas there are a number of people who are sheltering on the roofs of houses to protect themselves from the flood,” the PRF said in a statement.
“During the operation, the federal road police rescued a baby and a lady who were on the roofs of their houses waiting for help. The actions took place in the municipality of Roca Sales”, he added.
Cyclone sweep kills five in South
This Tuesday morning, the number of deaths caused by heavy rains caused by the passage of an extratropical cyclone through the southern region of Brazil rose to five.
The SC Fire Department informed the CNN that the garrison team of the city of São Lourenço do Oeste was called to respond to an occurrence of a eucalyptus tree that fell on a vehicle and killed the driver. The victim was an adult male, who was alone in the car when firefighters arrived at the scene.
In Mato Castelhano, a person died trying to cross an area flooded by an overflowing river, and was carried away by the current.
In Passo Fundo, a man was electrocuted in the Cruzeiro neighborhood. About 20 homes in the city had their roofs damaged by the hailstorm.
In Ibiraiaras, two people died after being trapped inside a vehicle when trying to cross a river overflow area and being carried away by the current.
