Prince Andrew has Twitter account deleted days after losing military titles

Prince Andrew’s Twitter account was deleted days after Queen Elizabeth stripped him of his honorary military and charitable titles.

Visitors to the prince’s official Twitter page, @TheDukeofYork, which had previously been tagged in posts by the royal family’s official Twitter user, are now greeted with a blank page and a message saying “this account does not exist”.

The biography on the page read: “The official Twitter account for the Duke of York”, and his own tweets were signed with “AY”, according to the PA Media news agency. A YouTube account is also no longer available, reports PA Media.

The prince still appears to have an official Instagram account, although it has recently been made private, meaning followers must request access to the page.

Buckingham Palace also updated its official website to reflect steps taken by the royal family to distance themselves from the Duke of York, who is facing a civil trial for sexual harassment in the US.

when contacted by CNN on Thursday (20), Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “Changes have been made to reflect Buckingham Palace’s recent statement regarding the Duke of York.”

On the official website of the British monarchy, the queen’s second son even has a page that reflects his duchy. However, at the top of the Duke of York’s page, it now refers to the Queen’s January 13 statement announcing her loss of titles and sponsorships.

“Before retiring from public life, the Duke of York undertook a wide range of public work, with a strong economic and commercial focus,” reads a statement on Prince Andrew’s website.

In a separate subtitle, titled “Supporting the Queen”, Andrew’s former duties are detailed in the past. For example, it states:

“An important part of the Duke of York’s role was to support the Queen’s work as Head of State. He did this by representing Her Majesty at events and visits in the UK and abroad; receiving official Heads of State and Government, and participating in state and ceremonial occasions.”

Last week, a New York judge ruled against a motion by Andrew’s legal team to file a civil lawsuit brought against him by Virginia Giuffre, who alleges she was trafficked by financier Jeffrey Epstein and forced to perform sexual acts with the prince when she was 15 years old.

Andrew vigorously denied these allegations.
