I don’t see a rapid deceleration of inflation, says Sergio Vale

THE CNN expert in economics Sergio Vale commented, this Thursday (20), the statements made by the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, about the inflationary scenario in the country.

During a lecture on the afternoon of this Thursday (20), Campos Neto approached the country’s inflationary situation with optimism and said that “we have already started to see a fall”.

Vale said he believes that we should see a deceleration in inflation this year, “causing the IPCA to return to single digits again in March or April”.

However, the CNN expert stated that some surprises reappear and start to become a problem.

“We have beans and soy pressing at the beginning of the year. The exchange rate should still appear due to the troubled electoral period and fuel should also continue to have an impact”, he said.

Thus, Vale said he did not believe that a rapid deceleration of inflation should occur. “I don’t see a rapid deceleration of inflation. We have an index that is beginning to spread to other items,” he said.

“Fiscal policy will not be a helping element, just as currency exchange and politics should not help.”
