The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made an earlier visit to the Russian Ambassador here, regarding the expulsion of eight Greek diplomats by the diplomatic and consular authorities in Russia.
He emphasized that the Russian reaction was disproportionate compared to the measures our country had announced against certain Russian diplomats, who had been declared undesirable, as they had proven to have demonstrated action inconsistent with their diplomatic status, in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963.
On the contrary, the expulsions of the Greek diplomats have no justification, other than acting as disproportionate retaliation. It was also underlined that the aforementioned Greek diplomats in no way violated the Vienna Conventions.
Finally, the protest of the Greek side regarding the content of recent statements by Russian officials was expressed and it was emphasized that generalizations and formulation of accusations against our country that cannot be verified should be avoided.
