Proxenos ID: The long-term value of the port of Alexandroupolis is enormous

Representatives of the American consortium Proxenos ID visited Alexandroupolis and met with local authorities and companies to understand the long-term goals of the city port.

Proxenos-ID, a joint venture of Proxenos International and Quintana-ID, is participating as one of the 4 bidders in the tender for the privatization of the majority stake in the Alexandroupolis Port Authority.

“We are excited about the opportunity to create unprecedented value and economic energy for the community and citizens of Alexandroupolis by revitalizing the port,” said Proxenos President Ed McKechnie. “Through our experience in developing ports, industrial parks and railways around the world over the last 20 years, we believe that the long-term value available here to optimize its operations and create jobs for the city and region is huge”.

McKechnie is leading Proxenos ID’s studies for the port of Alexandroupolis, developing a business plan that reflects the reality and opportunities that have not yet been realized.

By prioritizing dialogue with the community, as well as its efforts to create new financial sustainability, Proxenos ID stands firmly on the foundations of cooperation and the development of opportunities created by port development through cooperation and consultation.

The commitment of Proxenos ID for the implementation of the port transformation efforts is long-term, focusing on the encouragement of local, regional and international investments, while at the same time developing the full potential of the port as a vital international transport gateway to northern Greece.

“Through our studies and discussions, we have identified a path and we see an approach to the port of Alexandroupolis that focuses on its highest and best possible use,” McKechnie said. “We believe that our plan is unique and will lead to the success that is necessary to create significant value for the city, the region, Greece and the rest of Europe for future generations.”

“Our plan is summarized in a few key points,” McKechnie said. “The first is to support existing businesses in the port. The second is to find new customers to expand Alexandroupoli’s reach in Central and Eastern Europe via rail and road, and vice versa, to use ships to expand the reach.” of the port in locations around the world “.

McKechnie pointed out the connection that the port of Alexandroupolis has with the local community, as well as the real opportunities that exist for the conversion and development of the port’s assets. He said he believes the commitments to realize these opportunities will encourage tourism and strengthen ties between the people who will use the port.

McKechnie also said he believes the port’s leadership team should balance the port’s growing use of US and NATO troops by ensuring that the port is well-equipped to serve current and future trade.

“Our team has met with local businessmen and we have walked the streets of Alexandroupolis, realizing the citizens’ connection to the port,” McKechnie said. “It is the gateway to this city and the people of Alexandroupolis need and deserve a world-class port with a global reach. Our team is very familiar with facilitating customer and community collaboration to achieve long-term success that leads to structural change “They start and end locally. In addition, it is our priority to communicate this in a way that businesses and families can understand and enjoy.”

The Proxenos ID team stated that they approach each project with the same mentality. Like the large-scale development projects that McKechnie has led in the past, he said he knows port customers need to be an integral part of the equation.

“The reason we exist and create value through any project lies with the clients and the community behind every effort,” McKechnie said. “Many companies will approach a project, such as the port of Alexandroupolis, in an effort to impose a vision on customers and the community, ultimately putting the parties in conflict. This will not work, and it is not our practice.”

McKechnie added that he clearly sees the chances of success for Alexandroupolis.

“This community deserves a world-class port that can be a center of innovation, transport and community development,” McKechnie said. “If Proxenos ID is the winner of this process, you will see an intensive effort by our team to connect more and more with customers and the community to embark on an economic journey that will create value for northeastern Greece.”

In closing, McKechnie said it was vital that there were no further delays in the bidding process.

“There is alignment from customers in Greece and all over Europe who are looking for a new gateway. It is clear that the people of Alexandroupolis are proud of their port and are excited about the transformation. It is time for this process to move forward and become “Proxenos ID is grateful for the opportunity to do just that in collaboration with the people of Alexandroupolis and we welcome the opportunity to work with any groups interested in doing the same.”
