“Putin ordered full-scale invasion of Ukraine”, says Ukrainian minister

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had ordered a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“Ukraine’s peaceful cities are under attack. This is a war of aggression. Ukraine will defend itself and win,” she wrote on social media.

For Kuleba, the “world can and must stop Putin” and “the time to act is now”. The minister said that tough new sanctions should be announced against Russia, with the aim of isolating the country “in every way”.

Finally, Kuleba requested weapons and equipment for Ukraine, as well as financial and humanitarian assistance.

Shortly after Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation” in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, US President Joe Biden said that “the United States, its allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive manner.”

In a statement released by the White House early on Thursday, Biden said that “Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction that this attack will bring.”

“The prayers of the entire world are with Ukraine tonight, which is suffering an unjustifiable attack by Russian military forces. President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring catastrophic loss of life and human suffering.”

Shots and explosions were heard in the early hours of Thursday (24) in several parts of Ukraine shortly after Russia announced a military operation in the neighboring country.

CNN Brasil reporter Mathias Brotero is in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, and reported hearing noises that could be explosions.
