Russian President Vladimir Putin issued threats against the West in his speech today, simultaneously announcing partial conscription. Putin’s speech today represents a worrying escalation and the threats he made in it should be taken seriously, British Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Gillian Keegan told Sky News.
“It’s clearly something that we’re going to have to take very seriously because, you know, we’re not in control of the situation — I’m not sure he really is either. This is obviously an escalation,” Keegan said, as reported by Reuters and the Athens News Agency.
Earlier Putin accused the West of engaging in nuclear blackmail against his country and pointed out that Russia has “many weapons to respond” to what he called Western threats, stressing that he is “not bluffing”.
