Qatargate – Farmaki Eddie Rama to Metsola: Karma is a bitch

The Prime Minister of Albania dripped medicine Eddie Rama in a discussion organized by Politico as part of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Referring to the big corruption scandal in the European Parliament, he turned to its president Roberta Metsola and in a biting tone said: “I’m sorry, but I have to say it, when the corruption case became known I said ‘Karma is a bitch'”, with Metsola simply waving her head.

Rama left several hints about the hypocritical attitude of countries that are already members EU. and pointed out that the Union demands from the countries that want to enter greater values and standards than those maintained by its members. “More than half of the EU countries would no longer be able to enter the EU. I’m not talking about the ex-communists. I’m talking about the founders too, believe me,” he said, according to Politico.

Rama claimed the accession process for candidate states is different from when countries such as Malta, Metsola’s home country, joined the bloc, saying it has become an “incredibly neurotic and unfair affair”. Albania ranks 110th on Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, below South Africa, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Metsola, for her part, emphasized that the European Parliament “it was always extremely positive when it came to EU enlargement because many of us remember our membership.”

Rama stated that while his country is learning from the E.U. on how to build democratic institutions, he still feels that the EU took its punishment when the scandal broke. That’s when he also said the saying karma is a bitch.
