The well-known network insider Digital Chat Station has obtained information on the characteristics of the new SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 898, which should form the basis of the flagship smartphones Xiaomi 12 and Samsung Galaxy S22.
The source writes that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 is manufactured using Samsung’s 4nm manufacturing process. In addition, this single-chip system uses a three-cluster architecture (1 + 3 + 4). The Cortex X2 core frequency is 3.0 GHz. Three cores are clocked at 2.5 GHz, while the energy efficient cores are clocked at 1.79 GHz. The GPU is the Adreno 730.
The source added that the frequencies of the final version will be about the same as the prototype currently being tested. It also reported that power consumption remained at about the level of the Snapdragon 888. According to Digital Chat Station, power consumption will be reduced in the next generation Qualcomm platform.
If Qualcomm follows its annual schedule, the Snapdragon 898 will be unveiled at the Qualcomm Summit in December this year. In addition, Snapdragon 898+ could be released in the second half of 2022, while this platform will be manufactured by TSMC and may be better in terms of power consumption.
