Queen Elizabeth: First monarch funeral at Westminster Abbey for 262 years

On the evening of September 8, 2022, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, longest-reigning monarch in world history, dies peacefully aged 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, with her son Prince Charles, now king charles iiito succeed his mother to the English throne.

As ABC News reports, following a period of national mourning in the UK and elsewhere, Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday 19 September10 days after the official announcement of the Queen’s death.

After Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral service at Westminster Abbey – the first of its kind in almost 300 years – her final resting place is expected to be St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle. She will be buried next to her father, King George VI, her sister, Princess Margaret, and her husband, prince philip.

Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral service is expected to last 90 minutesafter which her coffin will pass through the Buckingham Palace and Wellington Arch and finally it will go to Windsor Castle.
