Race to Mars: China also intends to send a man to the Red Planet by 2033

It looks like the race to conquer Mars is in full swing. It is already known that the American Aerospace Agency (NASA) intends to send its first manned mission to the Red Planet in 2033. China has set a similar ambitious goal for itself, which also wants to send a person there by 2033.

The Chinese National Space Administration has developed a plan for an expedition to Mars, consisting of three stages. First, robots will be sent to the planet, whose task will be to collect samples of Martian soil and search for potential locations for the base. Then Chinese astronauts will fly there to build this base. Finally, in the final phase, China plans to send a fleet of spaceships, placing them between Earth and Mars, and attempt a large-scale exploration of the Red Planet. The first crewed mission is scheduled for 2033, with further launches in 2035, 2037, 2041 and 2043.

The head of the China Rocket Research Institute said the Martian spacecraft could be powered by a nuclear power plant, which should significantly reduce flight times. He also said that China is exploring an option using the “Sky Ladder” system, which will consist of several space stations, where astronauts can stop on their way to Mars. Such ambitious goals and tight deadlines should exacerbate the rivalry between China and the United States in space.

Nevertheless, experts believe that the timing of the flight to Mars, set by China, is too optimistic. They are sure that a flight into Mars orbit in 2033 is impossible from the point of view of technology development. And this will remain so at least until the end of the 2030s.
