The city of Rio de Janeiro entered an Alert stage at 8 pm this Tuesday (7). This is the fourth of five risk levels for accidents monitored by the City Hall’s Operations Center.
Of the 162 sirens in communities that the Civil Defense has, at least 113 had already been activated at 8:40 pm. The Fire Department has already responded to 170 incidents related to rains across the state just this Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Jobs include cutting down trees, flooding, flooding and rescuing people. There are cars stranded in several neighborhoods of the Rio de Janeiro capital.
Avenida Niemeyer, an important connection between the South and West zones, was blocked early in the evening, as was the Grajaú-Jacarepaguá road. BRT and VLT lines also had part of their operation suspended.
Altogether there are already 106 occurrences related to flooding in the city of Rio de Janeiro, including 63 water reservoirs that remain full in the streets. There are records of flooding in the neighborhoods of Copacabana, Humaitá, Rio Comprido, Grajaú, Maracanã, Catete and Vila Isabel.
On Twitter, Governor Cláudio Castro (PL) stated that he is in contact with the mayors of the capital, São Gonçalo and Silva Jardim, to provide assistance.
“I ask people to avoid leaving their homes. And for those on the streets, stay in safe places. The moment is for attention and caution”, said Castro.
The mayor of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), also asked people not to travel unnecessarily: “The tendency now is to decrease at dawn. Tomorrow we could have a complicated day again”, he said.
