Ralph made it! Mexico bans testing of cosmetics on animals

Save Ralph is the short that showed us the dark and painful side of the cosmetic industry, which tests and experiments with animal life to promote its personal care products on every shelf in the shopping malls.

The short film that demonstrates how Ralph the rabbit is exposed to a life of abuse stirred the fibers of Mexican spectators and deputies, who have already got down to work to try to reverse and stop the damage to animal life.

Ralph the rabbit; Ralph made it! Mexico bans testing of cosmetics on animals

With 422 votes in favor and one against, the Chamber of Disputes in Mexico approved the draft reform to the General Health Law, making the practice of testing on animals for the cosmetic industry illegal. In turn, this reform prohibits the manufacture, import and / or commercialization of cosmetics tested on animal species from any country in the world.

This was possible because the Human Society International Mexico managed to collect more than one million signatures to promote this proposal.

We congratulate the president of the Health Commission, Miroslava Sánchez, and all the deputies, for promoting this bill and voting in favor. This is a further step towards ending unnecessary animal cruelty in the cosmetic industry and demonstrates Mexico’s leadership in the region.

– Antón Aguilar, director of Human Society International Mexico

By passing this reform, Mexico could become the first country in North America to establish laws to respect animal life and prevent its abuse and experimentation in cosmetic products. Now it only remains for these changes to be approved by the Mexican Senate so that Ralph and his friends can be safe.
