Renesas Electronics will relocate semiconductor manufacturing for automotive electronics to a factory in Ehime Prefecture in western Japan. This decision was made in connection with the suspension of the work of an enterprise in Ibaraki prefecture, which was damaged in March due to a fire.
The lines at Ehime are designed for 200mm plates. Mostly, microcircuits for cars are already produced here. Note that the Ibaraki factory is designed for 300mm plates. The manufacturer does not specify what kind of loss in production volumes can be compensated for through the transfer.
To cope with the situation and fill the deficit, Renesas is moving part of its production to other factories and placing orders at the facilities of foreign manufacturers.
According to Renesas management, “two thirds of the products manufactured in the N3 building [пострадавшем от пожара], can be produced elsewhere. “
Production at the affected factory is expected to resume in about three months. The source does not specify when the company will be able to return to the previous production volumes.
