Returnal Coming To PC February 15th With DLSS And Very High System Requirements

Two years ago, on April 30, 2021, Housemarque, under the auspices of Sony Interactive Entertainment, released the exclusive hardcore shooter Returnal on PlayStation 5, which instantly appealed to the audience with its unusual approach to death mechanics, high-quality graphics and emotional storytelling. True, in the summer of 2022, Housemarque employees officially announced that Returnal is no longer exclusive to the new generation Sony game console, because the game will be released on PC very soon. And yesterday, January 18, the developers announced the exact date – computer owners will be able to evaluate the project as early as February 15 this year.

In honor of the announcement of the official release date, the staff of Housemarque released a fresh trailer for Returnal, in which they talked about some of the features of the PC version of the shooter. However, as expected from previous ports of PC exclusives, the game has become more beautiful and technologically advanced due to the more impressive capabilities of computers compared to game consoles. For example, Returnal now supports NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR technologies, which are responsible for image upscaling and allow you to get higher frame rates without a significant reduction in graphics quality. True, the developers did not provide information about whether the game will support DLSS 3.

In addition, the video game supports NVIDIA Image Scaling technology, which is responsible for image upscaling and sharpening of objects in the frame based on the company’s drivers. Support for widescreen monitors is also announced, up to models with an aspect ratio of 21:9 and 32:9, and the developers paid special attention to reflections and shadows. The fact is that the PlayStation 5 console also supports the rendering of a shadow map based on ray tracing, but reflections based on the same ray tracing technology will also be used on the PC. This new generation console, unfortunately, does not.

Along with the technical features of the Returnal port on the PC, the developers have also published system requirements, which are likely to upset many. For example, to run a video game at the minimum graphics settings in 720p resolution, you need to have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 video card with 6 GB of video memory, an Intel Core i5-6400 processor, 16 GB of RAM and 60 GB of internal memory. And, of course, the drive must be solid state – HDD is not recommended even at such a low resolution. For a comfortable game in 4K at 60 frames per second, you need an NVIDIA RTX 3080 graphics card with 10 GB of video memory, an Intel i7-9700K processor, 32 GB of RAM and the same amount of internal memory.
