“The event was promoted by study centers formed by students from six public and private universities in São Paulo,” ESPM said in a statement.

The university clarified that the debate was not its own initiative and did not involve the involvement of school officials, but the space was provided “because the topic [do evento] is of great relevance to Brazilian society”.

ESPM student organizations spoke about Salles’ presence at the university.

The Centro Acadêmico 4 de Dezembro stated that it “repudiates this event [a palestra-debate] greatly” and called the idea of the former minister’s presence at the college “absurd”.

“How can an institution, which claims to completely reject any manifestation of a political nature at the university, approve the entry of a political person like Ricardo Salles? This is something unbelievable, since, in addition to being posted on Salles’ profile, the event took place in one of the main auditoriums of the complex”, wrote the entity.

The ESPM Battery also stated that it “actively protested against the attitude during the performance of the lecture and comes to the public once again expressing huge dissatisfaction against the promoted event”.

“We do not agree with the political propaganda carried out within the areas of the faculty, much less with the presence of a politician who promotes topics of devastation, degradation and exclusion – not only environmental, but social”, he added.
