Ricky Martin sues nephew for racketeering over baseless harassment claim

Ricky Martin’s lawyers filed a civil suit in a court in San Juan, Puerto Rico, against the singer’s nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sánchez, on Wednesday, alleging extortion, malicious stalking, abuse of rights and damages.

Martin’s lawsuit follows a July legal battle in which a judge in San Juan issued a protective order in favor of the artist’s nephew after he reported him for harassment – a claim Martin has refuted and rejected.

During a July 21 hearing, a judge decided not to extend the temporary protection order against Martin because his nephew asked that the case be dropped. After the hearing, Puerto Rico police said the protective order issued against Martin would be shelved as there was nothing criminal pending, CNN reported.

In the lawsuit filed on Wednesday, Martin sought financial compensation totaling at least $30 million, alleging that Sánchez’s actions led to the cancellation of “million-dollar contracts and present and future artistic projects.”

“The financial damage caused as a result of these actions is quantified in a sum of no less than US$ 10 million”, he says. The court document also says that the situation caused “damage to the singer’s reputation, who, until the Order of Protection became public knowledge, enjoyed an impeccable reputation gained through his long artistic and selfless career over the last nearly 40 years.” of your life”.

CNN has made several attempts to reach Sánchez’s legal representation for comment.

These reputational damages are quantified “in a sum of no less than US$20 million,” the lawsuit states. Martin seeks compensation for the damages claimed, interest, costs and attorneys’ fees.
