The structure for the Half Marathon and Rio Marathon is almost ready. The medical center, to deal with emergencies during the competitions, was set up at Aterro do Flamengo, in the south side, and protection rails have already been placed, to demarcate the course of the competitions. During the morning since Saturday (13), there was a big movement in Marina da Glória for the removal of the athletes’ kits.
According to CET-Rio, several roads in the southern and central areas will be closed to make the races viable. The longest ban will be at the Aterro do Flamengo, which will be closed at 22:00 on Saturday (13) and will only be released at 18:00 on Monday (15), at the end of the Leisure Area.
The transit operation will have 200 people on Sunday and 250 on Monday, including employees at CET-Rio, Municipal Guards and third parties, who will work to maintain fluidity, curb irregular parking, order intersections, guide pedestrians and drivers, in addition to effecting the locks during events. From the Rio Operations Center (COR), agents will also monitor the event through cameras.
On Sunday (14), the Half Marathon will start at Leblon beach, continue along the shore, pass the Aterro do Flamengo and close the circuit at Marina da Glória. On Monday (15), the Marathon will start at Marina da Glória, continue through the center and finish the 42 km route in the south.
The tests helped to increase the demand for accommodation in Rio during the holiday. Of the 20,114 registered athletes, more than 32% are from out of state and even from the country. Some hotels confirmed that the increase in demand reached almost 50% due to the two competitions.
In Rio de Janeiro, the hotel chain is 95% occupied, according to the Brazilian Association of the Hotel Industry in Rio (ABIH-RJ).
