American mining company Riot Blockchain has begun moving ASIC miners from a data center in New York State. Most of the equipment will be installed on mining farms in Texas.
The company said that the equipment is being removed from the Coinmint data center in Massena. One of the main goals when moving mining power is to use cheaper energy. In addition, this will allow “to get rid of additional costs for third-party counterparties.” The equipment will be moved to Whinstone Farm in Rockdale this month.
Note that now in Texas there is extremely hot weather. In many areas of the state, the temperature exceeds 38 degrees Celsius, in connection with which the power grid of Texas is under additional pressure. Given this, the cost of MWh can reach $95. However, solar and wind power generation is expected to help meet demand.
In order to cool the equipment, Riot Blockchain has already built one air-conditioned building and is finishing the construction of the second one. It is in the second building that devices from New York will be moved. Recall that the capacity of the Whinstone data center is planned to be increased to 1 GW.
