RIS: Alexis Tsipras returns to ‘I do not pay’

The adjustment clause is provided for in the European legal framework and has been incorporated into the Electricity Supply Code for almost a decade, as is the case with fluctuating electricity tariffs in most European countries.

This is pointed out by the Ministry of Environment & Energy in an announcement-response to today’s statements of the president of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras after his visit to the Athens Bar Association.

“Mr. Tsipras insists on distorting reality and turning to lies and deception in order to overcome his political impasses. “he did not abolish under his own government. How much the irresponsible words of SYRIZA cost and still cost the Greeks is known to everyone”, the ministry states and adds:

In fact, in his pseudo-recital, he systematically omits to refer to the retail price paid by consumers in Greece, which in March was 8% lower than the European average after government subsidies. Especially in Spain and Portugal, countries in which the official opposition constantly mentions, the average retail price was 62% and 4% respectively more expensive compared to Greece last month.

In April, state subsidies absorb the increase in household electricity bills by more than 80%. The same applies to small and medium enterprises, with power supply up to 35 kVA and to all bakeries regardless of power supply. These companies, amounting to 1,240,000, are subsidized for the total monthly consumption of 230 euros / MWh.

With regard to power outages, we must remind SYRIZA that under its own rule the number of consumers to whom the supply was cut off was much higher. In 2017, the arrears due to overdue debts amounted to 233,092 and in 2018 to 220,314. Respectively, in 2020 they decreased to 186,887 and in 2021 to 168,471 “.

G. Economou: Mr. Tsipras seeks to plunge the country back into the abyss

“It is absurd and dangerous – but unfortunately not unprecedented for Mr. Tsipras – to characterize the law as illegal by a political leader of a parliamentary party,” Deputy Prime Minister and Government Spokesman Giannis Oikonomou said in a statement, commenting on remarks made by the electricity price and the adjustment clause, after his visit to the Athens Bar Association.

Mr. Economou also stressed that “Mr. Tsipras seeks to plunge the country back into the abyss, as in 2015” and added that the government is well aware of the burden on citizens and has spent more than 4 billion euros so far on cover part of the increases.

As bitterly understood by those who, during the period of the memoranda, were deceived by Mr. Tsipras and his various satellite movements, like the rogue memory “I do not pay”, easy words and promises of magical solutions aggravate the problems, do not solve them never “said Mr. Economou specifically, and added:

“The Government, knowing full well the burden of the citizens from the global crisis on energy, has already spent over 4 billion to cover part of the increases. That is why in retail prices Greece was below the European average in March. “Thanks to the policies of practical support, the Greek citizens paid cheaper for electricity than the Spaniards and the Portuguese, whom Mr. Tsipras often refers to, while the picture is expected to be similar in April.”

He also stressed that “we know very well that the situation is explosive and the difficulties for the citizens are great” and concluded:

“The government, in addition to what it has already done, will do everything in its power to mitigate the effects of the global energy crisis. That is why it is working on another viable plan to intervene substantially in the price of electricity. Mr Tsipras seeks to re-immerse the country. in the abyss, as in 2015. The people, who suffered and learned, will not allow it “.
