British police fined the prime minister today Rishi Sunak because he was driving a car without wearing his seat belt in order to shoot a short video for social media.
In this video posted to his Instagram account, which has since been removed, the Conservative leader talks enthusiastically about his policy of territorial balancing, sitting in the back of a car without wearing his seat belt, while traveling in northern England.
Sunak apologized yesterday, Thursday, for what he called “small mistake, an error of judgment».
“Following the release of a video on social media showing a person not wearing a seatbelt while in a car driving in Lancashire, we issued a summons (FPN) today for a 42 year old man from LondonLancashire Police announced on Twitter.
“Of course, he will comply with the fine”
The prime minister “fully acknowledges it was a mistake and has apologised. Of course, he will comply with the fine,” a Downing Street spokesman responded.
According to the BBC and as relayed by the Athens News Agency, the summons for not wearing a seat belt as a passenger in a car amounts to 100 pounds sterling (114.2 euros) and can reach 500 pounds (571 euros) if the case is referred to the court.
This is not the first time that Rishi Sunak has been fined. When he was Boris Johnson’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, he was fined in the so-called ‘Partygate’ scandal for attending a gathering for the Prime Minister’s birthday, in breach of anti-Covid regulations.
