RJ: Civil Police begins to listen to military personnel who worked in Complexo do Salgueiro

Police officers from the Homicide Precinct of Niterói, São Gonçalo, Itaboraí and Maricá will begin listening this Monday (29) to the military police officers who participated in the action at Complexo do Salgueiro, in São Gonçalo, last Sunday (21) which ended with nine dead.

At least eight bodies were removed from a mangrove area the day after the action.

The forecast is that all agents are heard throughout this week. Police investigate under what circumstances the deaths took place.

Among the eight people removed from the mangrove swamp, three have no criminal record – one of them, police say, appears in a photo holding a rifle.

The scene of the removal of the bodies last Monday morning (22) drew the attention of the UN and the OAB Human Rights Commission, which demanded parallel investigations from the Police to the Public Ministry.

The requests involve investigations related to deaths, possible abuses committed by police officers in the Salgueiro community, the death of PM sergeant Leandro Rumbelsperger, and to investigate the circumstances of the injuries caused to an elderly woman during the operation.

The internal report of the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) of the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro admits that the death of sergeant Leandro Rumbelsperger da Silva, on the eve of the action, was one of the reasons for the operation to be launched.

The data appears in the field “justification of the absolute exceptionality of the operation”. At least 75 police officers participated in the action.
