RJ government may reevaluate the release of street carnival, says Chieppe

With the expectation of an improvement in the epidemiological scenario of Covid-19 in April, the State Health Department (SES) of Rio de Janeiro does not rule out the possibility of reviewing the ban on street Carnival.

“At first it is ruled out, but according to the epidemiological scenario everything can be reviewed,” said Secretary Alexandre Chieppe.

According to him, the postponement of the party gave “a certain tranquility, because it is quite possible that this curve (of transmission) that is already showing signs of stabilization in the Metropolitan Region of the state, that by March/April it had already fallen”.

Chieppe revealed that he does not like to anticipate the epidemiological scenario because this is not in the control of the health authorities, but confesses that, apparently, April will be a “very comfortable” month.

The holder of the portfolio in the City Hall of Rio, Daniel Soranz, agrees that the epidemiological scenario on holidays and Tiradentes will be more favorable.

However, during an interview this Wednesday (26) the secretary was less optimistic about the parade of the blocks, since they do not allow for sanitary control.

“In relation to street carnival, everything is more complex. There is an organization to be done, but it is a carnival without any kind of sanitary control. Much more complex than carnival at Marquês de Sapucaí or an indoor carnival,” he explained.

The city hall of Rio canceled the street Carnival at the beginning of the year, precisely because of the lack of possibility of sanitary control. Last week, the announcement, together with São Paulo, was the postponement of the Samba Schools Parade. The presentation will be on Tiradentes holiday, in April.
