The entrepreneur and presenter Roberto Justus was diagnosed with bladder cancer. In a publication on Instagram on Sunday (6), Justus revealed that a malignant tumor was identified early in routine annual exams and that he will undergo chemotherapy sessions in a preventive way.
“During a check-up that I do every year, I discovered a diverticulum in the bladder, on top of the bladder. For those who want to understand better, maybe a cyst that had something solid inside. My urologist, fantastic doctor, decided that we had to operate immediately, because it could be a malignant tumor, we would only know that when we operated. We operated, opened and found that it was indeed. So I had invasive bladder cancer only it was taken out in time,” Justus said in a video.
The presenter highlighted the importance of carrying out medical check-ups, for the early detection of diseases.
“Do a regular check-up, especially those who are over 40 years old. This physical strength that I have and this determination are going to be very important, allies for me to get rid of this problem once and for all,” he said.
He claims to have undergone a diagnostic imaging test called a Pet-Scan, to check for the possibility of cancer cells having spread through the body. According to Justos, the examination did not reveal the spread of the disease. However, the guidance of the oncology team that follows the case is that preventive treatment is carried out.
“I had a Pet-Scan yesterday, which is a general examination of everything, there’s nothing, I’m clean. But it may have escaped and it may escape the exam, so I’m going to have preventive chemotherapy for 12 weeks, just 8 sessions,” he said.
About bladder cancer
Each year, around 10,000 new cases of bladder cancer are identified in Brazil, according to the National Cancer Institute (Inca), with a higher incidence among men than women. According to Inca, white and elderly men are the group most likely to develop this type of cancer.
In addition, smoking can increase the risk and is associated with the disease in 50 to 70% of cases. Exposure to various chemical compounds is also linked to the development of bladder cancer.
Symptoms include the presence of blood in the urine, pain during urination, or frequent need to urinate but not being able to go to the bathroom. The treatment varies according to the degree of evolution of the disease, and may include surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Early detection of cancer provides a greater chance of treatment.
