After a pile-up that left at least six people dead in Belo Horizonte (MG), on Monday afternoon (27), the Arteris concessionaire reported that the section of the road at km 517.4 of the Fernão Dias highway was reopened that night. this Monday (27).
The highway has one of the most dangerous stretches in the country and is known as the “Highway of Death”, due to the high number of collisions with fatal victims. According to the PRF, the region ranks 6th in the section with the highest number of accidents. The place where the pileup occurred earlier this week is close to where seven Corinthians fans died in an accident in August this year.
According to the Minas Gerais Fire Department, the accident was caused by a pileup involving several vehicles, including 4 trailers and around 8 light vehicles.
Six deaths were confirmed and a 60-year-old man, who was trapped in the wreckage, was removed and taken by helicopter to Hospital João XXVIII. Nine other people involved in the accident were not injured.
Among the 6 deaths, 2 were in a vehicle belonging to the city of Guaxupé-MG. The third occupant of that same vehicle is the 60-year-old man who was taken away in serious condition by the air rescue service.
Rescue and support teams went to the scene and worked to free the road, in addition to providing assistance to victims who were trapped in the wreckage. According to firefighters, the Civil Police were called to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
