Russia: Criminal prosecution of blogger who was photographed naked in front of a church

Its principles of Russia they decided to prosecute the Russian woman blogger Polina Morugina, known as Polina Face, because she was photographed naked in front of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the Filiah area.

Thus, Morugina is accused of insult to religious sentiment of believers based on article 148 of the Criminal Code.

Initially, an administrative report was drawn up against her, which was returned to the Police to eliminate errors in the wording. The prosecution under Article 148 of the Penal Code against Morugina was initiated over a photograph depicting her standing in only her sandals in front of a church.

In November, a St. Petersburg court found city resident Andrei Kurdov guilty under the article on insulting religious sentiment and fined him 80,000 rubles. He was prosecuted in 2021 over a photo in which Kurdov and his friend were photographed against the backdrop of the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood with their pants down.

Last year, some criminal charges were brought against citizens for being photographed with some parts of their body naked against the background of churches and temples. In February, six people were prosecuted for insulting religious sentiment for filming a model in her underwear and fur in front of a mosque in Moscow.
