Russia may introduce fines for cryptocurrency payments

The head of the State Duma Committee on the financial market, Anatoly Aksakov, recalled that the authorities are against the use of cryptocurrency payments within Russia and suggested introducing liability for violators.

At the VII International Conference on the Protection of the Rights of Consumers of Financial Services, Aksakov said that now the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation are discussing the regulation of cryptocurrencies and mining in Russia. However, there is a consensus in the government to ban settlements in digital assets within Russia (with the exception of the digital ruble). To ensure the operation of the ban, it is necessary to introduce liability – at least fines.

“The number of people involved in cryptocurrencies is quite large. Unfortunately, many inexperienced people get caught in the net, so we need to adjust all processes. First, to strictly prohibit the use of cryptocurrency as a means of payment in Russia and hold accountable for it. But at the same time, give the opportunity to work in a transcendent jurisdiction, if there is such an opportunity, including paying for the supply of goods to Russia, why not, ”said the deputy.

The people’s choice expressed confidence that in the near future the issue will be regulated by law.

Earlier, Ivan Chebeskov, director of the financial policy department of the Ministry of Finance, said that any digital assets that can replace dollar payments and the SWIFT system in international payments are valuable.
