Russia’s resumption of nuclear weapons testing should now be considered an open question, given hostile US policies, a top Russian diplomat said in remarks broadcast today. “It’s an open question,” Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said when asked by Russia’s state-run TASS news agency whether Moscow was considering resuming nuclear weapons tests. “And without prejudging anything, let me just say that the situation is quite difficult. It is permanently examined in all its dimensions and in terms of all its components,” he added. These statements seem to signal a dramatic change of attitude on the part of Moscow.
