From September 1 in schools in Russia, with the beginning of the school year, a course entitled “Conversations about the important” will begin, within the framework of which children will be instilled with patriotism and love for the motherland. Investigative journalism website Vaznie istorii in its report entitled “The happiness of the Motherland is more expensive than life”, refers to the relevant guidelines drawn up for teachers who will teach these subjects.
“In the new school year, Russian students will be told every week that the war in Ukraine is an example of true love for the country and the Russian people, while a true patriot must always be ready to die for the happiness of the Motherland,” he writes. the Vaznie istorii website, referring to these lessons.
In the 1st and 2nd grade students, the program is designed to instill “love for my country” through love for the country’s nature. In the methodological instructions to the teachers, it is recommended to make the children listen to the sounds of nature, show them photos of Russian nature landscapes and listen to patriotic songs. In particular, the Soviet song “Where the Motherland Begins” is included in the lesson.
It is assumed that the purpose of this kind of lessons is “to educate patriotic feelings” but also to make children aware of “their own identity as citizens, and to learn to love the diversity and beauty of the Motherland’s nature”.
To the students of the 3rd and 4th grades the teachers will explain that the love for the country is manifested “with the bravery and determination to defend the Motherland in dangerous times”, while to the students of the 5th, 6th and 7th grades the teachers they will start talking about the “special military operation” and its goals, such as “the defense of the population of Donbass from the Kiev regime” and “the disarmament of Ukraine”.
The purpose of these discussions with the students is “to make the students understand the objectives of the special military operation, that the residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics are Russians and that is why it is important for them to return to Russia”, and that “the Russian military they are heroes”. Lessons in the older classes will conclude with these conclusions.
To the students of the 8th grade, teachers will also talk about “real patriots are ready to defend the Motherland with a gun in their hand.”
The course “Conversations about the important” will be taught in the context of “defending Russian society from destructive information-psychological effects” and “strengthening traditional spiritual and moral values”, according to the decree of President Vladimir Putin “For the national security strategy of the Russian Federation”.
For the development of these interactive courses with patriotic content, the Ministry of Education has already spent 22 million rubles, the website “Vaznie istorii” writes.
