Russia will create a combat rifle for NATO standards, striking a target at 3 km

The publication “RIA Novosti” with reference to the chief designer of ORSIS Maxim Baymetov, reported that the Russian company is developing an ultra-long-range rifle of NATO caliber (chambered for 50 bmg 12.7 × 99 mm). Such a weapon is capable of striking targets in combat conditions at a distance of 2.5-3 km. For comparison, the most popular development of the company – the T-5000 rifle – can hit targets at a distance of 1.6 km. Its various modifications are in service with the FSO, the National Guard and the security service of the President of the Russian Federation.

Baymetov told the publication that the rifle is being created primarily for export, but the Russian power structures are already interested in it. No one has produced a weapon of this class in Russia; it is planned to test it in early 2022. The chief designer of ORSIS emphasized that the rifle is intended to be used on a regular basis, this is not the case when you just need to set a record for target engagement range.

In 2020, the same RIA Novosti wrote that the Lobaev Arms integrated systems design bureau intends to create a unique DXL-5 sniper rifle capable of hitting targets at a maximum range of 7 km.
