Russian airstrike in Kramatorsk – One dead and six injured

LAST UPDATE: 17:28

At least one person was killed and six wounded during a Russian airstrike in the heart of the city of Kramatorsk, a local official said.

Pavlo Kirilenko, the governor of the Donetsk region, said a rocket destroyed six buildings including a hotel and an apartment complex located in a large industrial hub.

“A Russian missile hit the center of Kramatorsk. We know for sure that one person was killed and six injured, but these numbers may change,” the governor said, adding that “it was a deliberate attack on civilians… This will continue until we expel them”.

The neighboring city of Sloviansk, also in the Donetsk region, came under fire. Mayor Vadim Liakh said there were injuries, but did not give further details.

Russia, which invaded Ukraine on February 24, did not immediately comment on the situation in Kramatorsk or Sloviansk, while denying that it is harming civilians.

Moscow, after taking control of the neighboring Luhansk region, has made it clear that it plans to seize parts of the Donetsk region that its forces have not yet captured.

Ukrainian officials have said they expect Kramatorsk and Sloviansk to be the next targets of the Russian offensive.

Three civilians were also wounded by Russian fire in the Kharkiv region that borders Donetsk and Lugansk regions, the Kharkiv region administration said.
