Russian military says they are not attacking Ukraine

Russian military released a statement on Thursday (24) claiming that they were not targeting Ukrainian cities, while CNN in Ukraine report explosions across the country.

“The Russian Armed Forces are not launching missiles or artillery attacks on Ukrainian cities. High-precision weapons destroy military infrastructure: military airfields, aviation, air defense facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the statement reads. “The civilian population is not at risk.”

teams of CNN in the country reported explosions in Ukraine and outside the Donbas region, a city for which Putin announced a “special military operation” in the early hours of Thursday.

In a speech early on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation” in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, controlled by pro-Russian separatists, which he declared independent this week.

“Confrontations between Ukrainian and Russian forces are inevitable, it’s just a matter of time,” declared the Russian leader. “Circumstances demand decisive action from Russia. We cannot tolerate threats from Ukraine.”
