A Russian missile strike in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, hit a police station on Friday, killing a senior officer and injuring 30 others, national police said.
Four civilians were among those injured in the attack late this afternoon, according to a police statement on the Telegram messaging app. According to the statement, S-300 missiles were deployed by Russian forces.
Reuters was unable to independently verify details of the attack.
Television footage showed rescuers sifting through mounds of rubble.
Oleh Syniehubov, governor of the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine, said some of the injured police officers were in serious condition.
The city of Kharkiv remained in Ukrainian hands during the initial unsuccessful advance by Russian forces into the capital Kyiv following their invasion in February 2022.
Since then, the city has remained a frequent target of Russian airstrikes.
