Russian scientists figured out how to make it safer to use electronics in space

Researchers from the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU) have proposed a new way to improve the reliability of the use of electronic devices in space. It allows you to reduce power consumption and provides a high level of fault tolerance of the devices. The method can be applied not only in space, but also in other industries, for example, in medicine.

According to the TASS news agency, Russian scientists have been modeling various options for component redundancy, which is currently one of the most common ways to improve the reliability of electronics. They analyzed the effectiveness of this approach and proposed their solution to reduce costs while maintaining a high level of fault tolerance.

Instead of the usual introduction of additional redundant elements into the digital system (the main components can fail due to extreme temperature, radiation, pressure and other factors), the researchers proposed using redundancy at the level of transistors. Each transistor is replaced by four transistors connected to each other in a certain way. This allows you to ensure uninterrupted operation in the event of a problem with one of these elements.

Scientists have studied various options for placing redundant transistor structures in microchips and identified the most effective one. This reduces the power consumption of the microchip or reduces the area of the silicon chip.
