The Association of European Businesses (AEB) has published a fresh report with statistics on new car (and light commercial) sales in Russia for September 2021, as well as for the first three quarters of this year. Judging by the data, Russians often give preference to cars of Chinese brands, but the German brand Opel holds the lead by a large margin.
If we compare sales in September 2021 with sales a year earlier, they fell by 22.6% (34,924 units) – just last month, Russians officially bought 119,485 cars. However, if we compare the total sales for the first three quarters of 2021 and 2020, then sales increased by 15.1%.
If you break down sales for 2021 by category, you get the following statistics:
- commercial vehicles – 91,505 units (7.3%);
- off-road vehicles – 587,176 units (46.6%);
- pickups – 7,159 units (0.6%);
- electric vehicles – 797 units.
