In particular, according to the Russian agency Tass, Ms. Zakharova accused K. Mitsotakis that his comments were an attempt to justify the “anti-Russian” stance of Greece.

According to the representative of the Russian Foreign Minister, the Greek Prime Minister made “a strange choice of historical proportions”.

“The struggle of the Greeks for their independence, which dates back 200 years, was compared to the crimes committed by the Kiev regime, which waged war against its citizens in Donbas for eight years,” Maria Zakharova said in an interview. .

“It is unbelievable that the heroes who defended the fortress of Messolonghi in 1825-1826 are compared to the Nazis of Azov’s order,” he added.

According to her, this is “another attempt by Athens to justify its deeply wrong decision to join the anti-Russian front of the West, which includes the shipment of weapons to Kiev that are used daily for strikes against peaceful civilians in Donbas.”

Ms. Zakharova added that Russia, which is facing a host of accusations, is not in a position to offer an alternative view as all Russian media outlets have been “excluded from the Greek media”.

Concluding, she claimed that the Greek comments were “a show of devotion to the rules imposed on her by the US and NATO”.

What does Greece answer?

Regarding Ms. Zakharova’s statements, diplomatic sources note that “these statements unfortunately constitute a further aggravation in bilateral relations, an aggravation for which Greece bears no responsibility.”
